The biggest party of Central America

Just visited Antigua 5 days for Semana Santa or Holy week (Easter). This is the place to be for this fiesta in Guatemala. Over there they practice rather strange and old rituals. Thousands of national and international visitors crowd the streets to watch the costumed processions, and other ceremonies. The Antiguenas make alfombras (hughe colorful carpets of sawdust in different colors in the coblestone streets) in all the streets where they have processions. In these processions they carry enormous wooden tables for hours with statues of Christ with a cross, that are carried by hundreds of purple-robed men or statues of the Virgin carried by women in black.
It was wonderfull to watch, but man there were a lot of tourist. After one day with a group tour, I found my friend Kath of Quetzaltenango and we looked for places with good streetfood and more guatemaltecos. Much more fun! It was funny to be back in Antigua. Of course I went to the band of "the Buena Vista Social Club" and found out that I could dance so much better then two months ago. This time the man were asking to dance with me, hihi.
