Ai, I didn't write much lately. I have to admit that there are certainly less adventures when a person stays in one place. But I can't say life is boring. Every day feels like a little party.
Since a few weeks I'm taking some tango lessons. Milena a good friend in Bogotá is a big fan of tango. Because of her enthusiasm I changed my idea of taking salsa lessons (different style in Colombia then the rest of Latin America) into tango. Who could have imagined that I, the independent woman, who always wants some sort of control of things in life, could lean her chest against a stranger, closes her eyes and let her lead on this beautiful and moving music. I just love it!
This weekend I went with Milena and Larissa (couchsurfing friend from Brasil) to "a milonga" with life tango music. You probably know these bands with bandoneons (a small accordion they hang over there knees), really cool. They say Bogotá is the second tango city after Buenos Aires and this famous place was loaded with great dancers. As a beginner I didn't dance that much, but it went a lot better then my first salsa experience (when all the boys run away after my first dance).
At 2 a.m. I went with Larissa and two other Brazilian friends we met that afternoon and who don't dance tango, to another place to dance a little salsa.
In the half hour we stayed in the bar, before the bar closed we drank 3 tequilas each (and a beer). The first because a Bogotana who was standing at the bar told us it's "un exito" and we needed to try it. OK why not.... The second because the barman shut the bar and it was the last round. Of course... The third because a Bogotana was having her birthday that evening and we had to drink on her (paid our own round of course). We couldn't refuse... The barman liked Larissa and asked her what age she had. 25 she told him. Oh what a coincidence he said, because his son was also 25. Where is your son? Larissa asked. Well, there he showed up, probably he drank more then 3 tequilas. he went over to Larissa, could only mumble as drunk as he was and stared at her tequila. Then without asking he took her glas and drank her tequila. His father let us pay for it!! So far a nice evening dancing.
I'll only have one more week of theater and then I'll go and travel some more en Colombia. It will be a little strange leaving my house, friends and classes of theater and tango to explore a little of this beautiful country.
Some great news. The 15th of September I'll come home for a month. I'm so looking forward to see all of my dear family and friends. Can't hardly wait!! After my visit I'll return to Bogotá and travel till spring 2011.
(For the ones who wanted to know why I'm returning to the Netherlands read further...Wanna do a big check up of my thyroid in the Netherlands. I feel great but have some side effects which do not solve. Thought it would be better to get in balance. Just have this disease which is good to live with, but isn't the best for travelers because it's all about regularity food, climate and lifestyle. Hihi and that's all pretty different here).
