Tegucigalpa Honduras

Wow were shall I start. I spend a whole week in the capital of Honduras. My first couchsurfing experience on my own, connected me to Maria a Hondureña who lived with several family members in Tegucigalpa. It was such a lovely family. The abuela Doña Yolanda loved to cook and go to the market. She made me a typical and delicious Hondureñan soup "Mondongo" with corn, patatoes, yuca (casave) and tripa (intestines). She was 82 years old and a bit deaf. So I had to talk to her very loud and clear. Great way to practise my articulation.
Life over here is very different, then in Europe. The country is very poor and there are many thieves in the capital. I couldn´t go alone into town. People prefer to go by cab or car, instead of buses (less dangerous). I went with Doña Yolanda to the market during the day and with Maria or her father Don Carlos to live music in the evening. La vida nocturna (night life) is rocking. Many nice places with good life music and theater in a less dangerous neighborhood. There was a great concert with Hondureñan music at the university theater outside. The Hondureñan students have the reputation of being in resistence. They have a big voice in Honduras. At the concert were thousands of students (and on white girl, me) listening to great music and knowing all the texts (without me), all with a message of revolution. Check out Karla Lara!

Maria and her friend Cintia took me to the Atlantic Ocean in the weekend. On the route on Saturday night we went with 8 friends to the aquas calientes in La Paz. Natural swimmingpools with natural warm water in a beautiful forest. By coincidence there was a small "house party" going on with 20 other very young people. One drunk guy of 20 asked me if I wanted to smoke marihuana with him. It was his first time to smoke this and I was from Amsterdam so... I told him the Netherlands has more then only marihuana, for example tulips "tulipanes". He wanted to know what the effect of tulipanes was and where he could buy this. Of course we told him it´s really heavy to smoke tulipanes especially the black ones. We danced and swam till 4 o´clock in the morning. After two hours of sleep we went to enjoy the next day and be in time at the ocean. We ended up in a wildlife park at the see, owned by a good friend of Cintia with free food, free entrance and some sleep at the beach. Life is wonderful.
